The town has been a member of SCMIT since 2011 and only has had one workers" compensation claim to date. Chesterfield's staff has been proactive in reaching out for guidance in their loss control efforts and continuously works to create and maintain a safe work environment for all of its employees. Mayor Bill Cassidy with the Town of Chesterfield accepted the award at the Municipal Association's
Annual Meeting on July 11.
Award winners are determined based on loss experience for the current year and the prior three years. There are three population divisions with one top winner in each division. Winners receive a plaque, $2500 to purchase safety equipment and training for their municipal employees, and a recognition luncheon.
The SCMIT program is member-owned and was established in the 1980s as a response to the lack of stable and affordable insurance coverage for SC cities and towns. In addition to insurance benefits designed specifically for municipal governments, the program offers free onsite and online training, grant funding and other benefits.
