Municipal Clerks and Treasurers Institute has seven new graduates and one scholarship winner

The Municipal Clerks and Treasurers Institute graduated seven participants at its fall meeting and awarded a scholarship. MCTI is a three-year program, co-sponsored by the Municipal Association of SC, to provide municipal clerks and treasurers with the skills critical to their respective professions.

Gary Coleman, city administrator, City of Laurens; Denise Dyer, finance\HR director, City of Pickens; Connie Standridge, clerk\treasurer, Town of Pendleton; Kim Stanley, clerk\treasurer, Town of Irmo; Carla Taylor, clerk\treasurer, Town of Whitmire; Felicia Turner, administrative assistant, City of Mullins; and Willia Wright, clerk\treasurer, Town of Santee all received certificates at the Institute's fall meeting.
 
Also during the fall Institute, Deborah Hargis, municipal clerk, Town of Edisto Beach, received up to a three-year scholarship to attend MCTI. The scholarship is sponsored by the Municipal Finance Officers, Clerks and Treasurers Association.
 
To receive the MCTI certificate, participants attended more than 100 hours of classes in the role of the municipal clerk, financial management, management skills, overview of government, records management, public administration, election administration, conducting meetings, personal development, personnel management and municipal law.
 
The Institute is approved by both the International Institute of Municipal Clerks and the Municipal Treasurers Association of the United States and Canada. Completion of MCTI satisfies the education requirements for certification from both groups.
 
MCTI is co-sponsored by the Municipal Association of South Carolina, the Municipal Finance Officers, Clerks and Treasurers Association, and the University of South Carolina's Institute of Public Services and Policy Research.
