Main Street SC has recognized Robin Hornberger of Robin's Nest in Laurens with the 2015 Main Street South Carolina Master Merchant Award at the Municipal Association's Annual Meeting on July 18. Main Street Laurens nominated Hornberger. Main Street South Carolina is a program of the Municipal Association of South Carolina.

The award recognizes excellence in the retail field and is awarded to a merchant who is a "mover and shaker" in downtown revitalization and exemplifies creativity and success in merchandising, inventory, display, and value-added retailing and services.

In October 2014, Robin Hornberger celebrated her first year in business. In that short time, Robin and Robin's Nest on Main have had a major impact on Laurens" business district. The owner of a vacant home on historic West Main Street, Hornberger decided to take the house off the market and turn it into a gift shop.

Hornberger is a member of Main Street Laurens" promotions committee, hosted the Chamber's Christmas Business after Hours event and participated in numerous downtown promotions. Robin's Nest on Main was one of the very popular pop-up shops at the 2014 Sip-N-Stroll wine-tasting event.

Hornberger has made her business a shopping destination in Laurens, generating traffic not only to her store but also to all of downtown. Her gift shop has breathed new life into a vacant home and helped generate excitement about shopping in downtown again.

"Robin Hornberger is more than a downtown business owner; she is a cheerleader and ambassador for Laurens and its downtown," said Beppie LeGrand, Main Street SC manager.
