Greer Mayor Rick Danner received the Municipal Association's highest honor awarded to municipal officials for lifetime achievement.
Mayor Paul Miller, president of the Association's board of directors, presented the Allison B. Farlow award to Danner at the opening session of the Association's 72nd Annual Meeting. The Allison B. Farlow award is named in honor of a former Myrtle Beach councilmember who exhibited exemplary service.
At this year's Association annual meeting, Danner stepped down as a member of the Association's board of directors having completed ten years on the board, three of those as its immediate past president.
"In addition to being the longest serving board member in the history of the Association, Mayor Danner has provided exemplary leadership during his tenure on the board," said Mayor Miller. "From chairing the nominations committee multiple times to leading the Association, its staff and members through the retirement and hiring of executive directors to guiding the three-year negotiations on the point of sale bill to a positive resolution, Mayor Danner has been a true leader for this Association."
Danner was recently re-elected to a fourth term as mayor of Greer. His tenure as mayor has covered one of the most progressive periods in the city's history, including unprecedented industrial and commercial growth, construction of the city's new Municipal Complex, and revitalization of the downtown.
A native of Knoxville Tennessee, Danner earned his B.S. from Clemson University. He is currently the vice president of Human Resources and Security at Greer State Bank. Danner is married to Greer native Rita Howell Danner. They are the parents of two sons, Sam and Jacob.
This award was established in 1975 to honor municipal officials who had contributed significantly to the advancement of municipal government in South Carolina. The award is not presented every year. There have only been 16 recipients of the award since its creation.
The Municipal Association of South Carolina is a nonpartisan, not-for-profit Association of incorporated cities and towns dedicated to raising the standards of municipal government through a broad range of services.
